Antena es un proyecto colaborativo dedicado a la justicia del lenguaje y la experimentacií³n del lenguaje, fundado en 2010 por Jen Hofer y John Pluecker: escritorxs, artistas, traductorxs literarixs, artesanxs de libros e intí©rpretes activistas. En el sur de California, Antena trabaja en colaboracií³n con su colectiva hermana Antena Los íngeles, co-fundada por Jen Hofer y la abogada, educadora-organizadora e intí©rprete Ana Paula Noguez Mercado; esta colectiva se enfoca en coordinar acciones a favor de la justicia del lenguaje con grupos comunitarios a nivel regional.
La justicia del lenguaje es la idea fundamental de que todxs tenemos el derecho de hablar en el/los idioma(s) en que nos sintamos mí¡s cí³modxs, de entender y ser entendidxs. La justicia del lenguaje es un marco conceptual para crear espacios donde ningíºn idioma se imponga sobre los demí¡s idiomas, y es un conjunto de herramientas y estrategias para alimentar dichos espacios. La experimentacií³n del lenguaje es una manera elí¡stica, exploratoria y poí©ticamente dinamizada de aproximarnos a un lenguaje que se resista a la forma en que las injustas estructuras de poder se fortalecen cuando usamos el lenguaje del estatus quo automí¡ticamente y sin cuestionarlo. A traví©s de la escritura, el arte, la elaboracií³n de libros, la traduccií³n, la interpretacií³n, el performance, la programacií³n de eventos bilingí¼es, el trabajo de justicia del lenguaje y la editorial micro Libros Antena Books, Antena explora cí³mo es que las perspectivas críticas acerca del lenguaje nos puedan ayudar a reimaginar y rearticular los mundos que habitamos.
El Antenamí³vil es un triciclo de carga adaptado, equipado con libros que estí¡n a la venta y para leer aquí. La seleccií³n se enfoca en publicaciones de editoriales pequeí±as y publicaciones DIY (Do-It-Yourself, o Hazlo-tíº-mismx) de Estados Unidos y Latinoamí©rica, destacando obras bilingí¼es y multilingí¼es, textos en traduccií³n y textos innovadores de escritorxs de razas marginadas.
Ayuda en la fabricacií³n del AntenaMí³vil fue proporcionada por Hugo Martínez y Rob Ray. Founded in 2010 by Jen Hofer and John Pluecker, both of whom are writers, artists, literary translators, bookmakers and activist interpreters, Antena is a collaborative dedicated to language justice and language experimentation. In Southern California, Antena works with its sister collective Antena Los íngeles, co-founded by Jen Hofer and lawyer, organizer-educator, and social justice interpreter Ana Paula Noguez Mercado, doing language justice organizing with community groups locally.
Language justice is the basic idea that everyone has the right to speak in the language(s) in which we feel most comfortable, to understand and to be understood. Language justice is a conceptual framework for creating spaces where no language will dominate over any other, and a set of tools and strategies for nurturing those spaces. Language experimentation is an elastic, exploratory and poetically energized approach to language that resists the ways that unjust power structures are reinforced when we use the language of the status quo automatically and without question. Through writing, art- and book-making, translating, interpreting, performance, bilingual event programming, language justice work, and the micro-press Libros Antena Books, Antena explores how critical views on language can help us to reimagine and rearticulate the worlds we inhabit.
The AntenaMí³vil is a retrofitted Mexican cargo tricycle stocked with books that are for sale and for reading on-site. The selection focuses on small-press and DIY publications from the U.S. and Latin America, and features bilingual and multilingual works, work in translation, and innovative texts by writers of color.
Fabrication assistance for the AntenaMí³vil was provided by Hugo Martínez and Rob Ray. Electrification research assistance was provided by Dan Koeppel, and by Tony Rivera of Electric Pedicabs (electricpedicabs.com). Mechanical modifications and electrification were done by Josef Bray-Ali of Flying Pigeon LA (flyingpigeon-la.com).
The books on the AntenaMí³vil are for sale and for reading on-site. The selection focuses on small-press publications from the U.S. and Latin America, and features bilingual and multilingual works, work in translation, and innovative texts by writers of color. These books would not be here without the tremendous labor of love of the many writers, editors, designers, and publishers who make the vast worlds of small- and tiny-press publications exist.
